Thanet MPs invite local businesses to exporting event

June 18th 2018

In partnership with the Department for International Trade (DIT), Sir Roger Gale, MP for North Thanet, and Craig Mackinlay, MP for South Thanet, are inviting local businesses to an export event on-board DIT’s Export Hub.

The event will be held on Friday 6 July between 9am and 12.30pm at the Hornby Visitor Centre in Margate, where regionally-based businesses will be able to hop aboard the Export Hub to hear guest speakers from DIT and UK Export Finance (UKEF).

DIT will provide businesses with essential information on the benefits of exporting, as well as practical advice on how to start or grow their export sales, how to access live global export opportunities and how to optimise their business for selling online. Firms will also be able to discover more about the range of support available from DIT.

DIT’s Export Hub is part of the government’s Exporting is GREAT campaign, which aims to help more British businesses explore new markets overseas.

South Thanet MP, Craig Mackinlay, commented:

“Small businesses are at the heart of the Thanet economy and Sir Roger and I want to do all we can to support their prosperity and growth.

North Thanet MP, Sir Roger Gale, added:

“Looking to the post-Brexit future it is vital that both small and large UK businesses take every opportunity to secure exports.

“I am therefore very pleased that Craig and I have been able to arrange for the Department for International Trade’s Export Hub to visit Thanet and to offer advice and encouragement to local companies.”

Ben Raby, Head of the South East, Department for International Trade, said:

“Although exporting can help firms boost profits and increase resilience, we know that the process has its challenges. This is why DIT is bringing the Export Hub to Margate – to provide practical advice on-the-day, and to show how local businesses can receive ongoing support.

“One way in which DIT can help businesses get their products overseas is through our network of international trade advisers based on the ground across the South East. They are on hand to advise and help businesses navigate everything from market selection to logistics, customs and tax. I would urge anyone who is interested to sign-up to visit the Hub and get in touch with DIT South East to see how they can maximise their business opportunities overseas.”

The Hornby Visitor Centre has kindly offered all attendees free entry, as well as a free hot drink in their newly refurbished café.

Companies of all sizes can visit the Export Hub on the 6th of July 2018 at the Hornby Visitor Centre in Margate. To find out more information and register, visit: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/you-can-export-hub-registration-45017964945?aff=MPOffice
