Daylight Savings Bill: Thanet MPs Speak For Sunshine

Thanet’s MPs Laura Sandys and Sir Roger Gale have today (Friday 20th January) spoken in the Commons in favour of extending daylight hours.

Laura Sandys told the Commons: “I have received many representations from local businesses engaged in tourism and leisure who want the job-creating opportunity that the proposed modest change to the clocks would offer.”

Rebutting those opposed to the bill, Sir Roger Gale MP added: “During the last experiment it became clear that lives on our roads were saved as a result of lighter evenings. The sadness is that literally thousands of injuries could have been avoided and many lives saved if the lessons from that 2 year experiment had been enshrined in law.”

The MPs added jointly: “It is a great shame that the procedure for Private Members Bills means that this modest measure will run out of Parliamentary time. We will now strongly press government to introduce the changes needed in government time.”
