Tories Meet At Manston to Discuss the Future of Airport

July 30th 2008

Shadow Aviation Minister Julian Brazier with Thanet Tories Laura Sandys and Roger Gale met with Matt Clarke who runs Kent International Airport to discuss the opportunities and the challenges that the airport faces.

“I was extremely impressed by the opportunities and the capacity that Manston offers Kent.  Infratil is an international operator that has exciting plans for the airport and as politicians it is for us to work with them to secure the jobs, and the economic prosperity that the airport could help deliver for the area,” said Julian Brazier MP, Shadow Aviation Minister and MP for Canterbury.  “The airport however does face the challenge of the Government’s proposed freight taxation and we are working with our front bench to develop policies to support Manston, not undermine its exciting future.”

“East Kent has a major asset in Manston Airport and with Kent County Council we aim to maximise the unique transport hub that we have – the airport, the port and the train service.  We have for too long been left at the end of the line and not put at the head of the queue.  This is one of many meetings that we will be organising with Conservative Shadow Ministers to secure an integrated transport strategy for East Kent building our economic prospects and creating jobs”, said Thanet Tories, Roger Gale  and Laura Sandys.
