North Thanet's MP Roger Gale has secured Commons time for an adjournment debate to place on the record growing concerns over the new timetable and service imposed by the Department of Transport on the Kent Coast (Medway Towns/ Faversham/ East Kent) railway line.
 
The debate chimes with two petitions on the Downing Street website that have already received more than a thousand signatures and which are attracting growing daily support.
 
"The level of dissatisfaction with the performance of South Eastern Railway,  the failure of the "High Speed" trains to serve the needs of East Kent and the arrogant failure of the Secretary of State to properly address the concerns of the travelling public make this debate essential" says Roger Gale.  "We have to get a Minister to the despatch box to correct statements that have been made and to properly answer the very many questions that have so far been avoided.  This adjournment debate creates the opportunity for us to nail some of the fictions about the length of journey times and the costs of so-called "high speed" travel for passengers from East Kent.and to call for improvements"
 
And Herne Bay commuter John Nicholson adds:
 
"If Southeastern Trains and the DfT listened to their customers they would appreciate the frustrations we all share on a daily basis simply trying to get to work.  Late trains, dirty carriages, short formed trains and skipping stations are just some of the issues we face every single day. Never mind the fact we cannot claim compensation as annual season ticket holders.  The sheer volume of signatories on the petition is testament to the feelings of the commuting public and cannot be written off".
