Animals Worldwide Fundraiser - Hampton Primary School

October 18th,  2008

More than 70 Bay supporters of locally based charity Animals Worldwide, founded by Suzy Gale, gathered at Hampton Primary School on Saturday to raise funds in support of the organisation’s work.

AW, a registered national charity, was created as a grant-making organisation designed to support small animal rescue centres around the globe and in its first year of operation has made ten grants including funds to assist with the rebuilding of the Animal House Shelter (which cares for abandoned goats, horses, dogs and cats) following the hurricane that devastated Jamaica, support for an international veterinary care group working with strays and providing educational services in India and, closer to home, providing money to assist a small dog rescue shelter in the Midlands that takes dogs from the police pound.

Thanking supporters at the end of the quiz night one of the charity’s patrons*, MP Roger Gale, said:

"This may seem like a drop in the ocean but if I tell you that the money that you have raised and contributed during this one evening is probably sufficient to fund the work of a shelter in a developing country for a whole year then you begin to see how valuable the work is. Support for those caring for working animals in some countries can make the difference between an entire family being able to earn a living and starvation.  This is animal welfare work at its most practical”.

* AW`s Patrons include
Lord Soulsby of Swaffham Prior
Professor Ron Jones, FRCVS,
John Tandy MRCVS,
