CEREMONY OF THE BLESSING OF COLOURS

Sunday 12th February 2012. 12.00 hrs.
The Small Boat Owners Association, 20 Guildford Lawn, Ramsgate CT11 9AY

Thanet Drum School is about to receive a blessing from the military in recognition of services and support.

The proceedings will be led by Honorary Colonel Blue Cooper of the Viper Corps, 3rd Battalion Queens Regiment. Also present will be Major Bradley of the Grenadier Guards and local dignitaries. The alter will be made of drums.

Graham Roost Manager of Thanet’s Drum School is delighted. He said:

“I am really proud of this occasion because we are a civilian organisation that has been given a military honour. As a civilian club we are allowed to wear the Queens Regiment Uniform and emblems on our drums.  The Blessing of the colours is one of the top achievements I could have hoped for because it all started off as a bit of fun.”

The School has 30 members of all ages and abilities from 7 years old.  It also caters for blind and visually impaired drummers. Children in the club work for awards and certificates including “The Royal Standard Badge.”
