Calais – “bring back internal border controls”

July 14th 2015

The Schengen Agreement should be abolished and internal border controls introduced across Europe says North Thanet`s MP, Sir Roger Gale.

Questioning the Home Secretary in the Commons this afternoon following her statement on Calais the MP said

“There are two problems. First, we expect that the French authorities will take the necessary action against strikers to maintain the much-vaunted `Freedom of Movement` and keep the port of Calais open to traffic at all times. Second, it is clear that the Schengen agreements has failed and that because of the abolition of internal border controls throughout mainland Europe it is now possible to travel from Martinique, on the other side of the Atlantic, to Calais without being stopped. Will she press for the abolition of Schengen”? (Actuality 13.00 app.)

In her response the Home secretary has made it clear that she recognises the seriousness of the situation facing East Kent.
