March 10th 2009

Thanet North MP Roger Gale today lent his weight to a campaign to promote skipping and healthy eating in Primary Schools when he took part in the annual Parliamentary skipping contest.

The contest is run by professional boxing trainer John McCormack who has spent the last 7 years setting up Skip2bfit a programme which goes into schools for young children.

“A few minutes of skipping between lessons gets kids fit and keeps their minds sharp and active enabling them to learn” says John

“We also encourage healthy eating. I have delivered this programme into thousands of schools and it works wonders. I would like to congratulate all the MPs who took time out of their busy schedules, to take part. The health of the nation is now a national priority and these MPs have helped today to show that everyone can be more active.”

Roger Gale agreed saying” there is a need to encourage more sporting activities in schools in order to tackle the nationwide problem of obesity among young children. “

Roger achieved an impressive 68 skips in a two minute interval.
