Quex Park welcomes Roger Gale MP ahead of Kent Big Weekend

Quex Park had a visit from local MP Roger Gale as the attraction prepared to welcome scores of visitors for Kent Big Weekend.

MP for North Thanet Roger Gale and Visit Kent chairman Amanda Cottrell OBE visited the Powell Cotton Museum on Friday afternoon, 20th March ahead of the launch of Kent Big Weekend and to support English Tourism Week.

The Powell-Cotton Museum donated 150 tickets to Kent Big Weekend so that Kent residents could discover the wealth of fun things to see and do within the Birchington park.

Roger Gale said: “Thanet has so much for people to see and do, and the Kent Big Weekend is a great way of showcasing our big and small attractions to the world.

“The best way of promoting an attraction is to let people experience it. I hope that everyone who visits the unique and wonderful Powell Cotton Museum – and Thanet’s many other great attractions – over the weekend will share their good memories with friends and family as many people as possible. If you have enjoyed it – talk about it! ”

Amanda Cottrell added: “Kent Big Weekend is such an exciting time of year for us – so many people are out and about discovering the wonderful attractions right on their doorstep.

“Quex Park and its museum really is gem, with so much to offer people of all ages. The new Gallery 6 is a treasure trove of fascinating finds, it was a joy to have the chance to examine them all!

“Tourism really is an industry worth supporting – it provides more than 68,000 jobs in Kent and puts £3.4billion into our economy.

“I hope people will be inspired to keep visiting and supporting local attractions, and possibly consider a career in the industry long term. You’ll never be bored!”

Roger Gale was one of a number of Kent MPs who visited local attractions on Friday 20th March to show their support for English Tourism Week and Kent Big Weekend, in partnership with Visit Kent.

Organised by Visit Kent, Kent Big Weekend saw scores of attractions opening their doors to more than 20,000 lucky ticket holders on 21st and 22nd March for a county-wide celebration of Kent’s fantastic tourism industry.

More than 100 big and small attractions donated tickets for the event, and there were more than 103,000 applications during the two week registration period in February. Two tickets per household were allocated by ballot to the lucky winners (some family tickets were available).

Kent Big Weekend is part of English Tourism Week (14th to 22nd March) and is seen as one of the flagship events in the national programme.

In addition to tickets already allocated to the general public, participating Kent attractions offered more than 2,000 tickets to The Family Holiday Association, which helps families in need to take a well-earned break.
