17th June 2025With cross party colleagues and representatives of the Wildlife Trust, the WWF and the RSPB at the launch of the findings of the Blue Carbon Mapping Project.
Note to National Grid:
We disturb the carbon locked in our seabeds at our peril. You have already done enough environmental damage to East Kent with the Nemo Link. You will not be forgiven for causing still more harm by blundering ahead with the ’Sealink’ project. Our seabeds do not need your exercises in environmental vandalism. | 17th June 2025The Fight Bladder Cancer team is at Westminster, meeting MPs to talk about #BladderCancer and ask for their support in pushing it up the political agenda 👆🏼
Fantastic to meet MPs Helen Maguire for Epsom & Ewell, Jim Shannon, from Strangford, NI, and Sir Roger Gale from Herne Bay & Sandwich so far this morning 🧡 | 17th June 2025The Fight Bladder Cancer team is at Westminster, meeting MPs to talk about #BladderCancer and ask for their support in pushing it up the political agenda 👆🏼

As we recall VE Day we also need to remember that there is still a conflict on European soil and that men, women and children are dying in Ukraine every day. | 4th May 2025Thanks to the 1200 cyclists who have turned out today to take part in the Bank Holiday cycle ride to raise funds for the Pilgrims Hospice. And thanks also to Locks of Sandwich who I caught up with at an early hour preparing to make any rolling repairs that are needed!
Please visit the Pilgrims Hospice website to donate. |

11th December 2024With Mr Speaker and one of this year’s Shooting Star Children’s Hospice Charity Christmas cards.
If you would like to buy any of the Christmas cards on offer or donate to the hospice please go to | 3rd December 2024Sadly every Member of Parliament has to deal, in the course of a parliamentary lifetime, with cases involving domestic violence and usually, although not exclusively, it is a woman who is the victim. There is no ‘quick fix’ to this problem but a better understanding and better training for all of those - including MPs - who have to become involved in such cases would go a long way to help. That is why I am supporting this Women’s Aid cause. | 15th November 2024In response to requests from constituents I was pleased to be able to make it to the launch of the Blue Cross “It’s a dogs life” Manifesto.
Blue Cross are calling for the registration and licensing of breeders, a ban on electric shock collars, a phasing out of greyhound racing and a better recognition of the effects of bereavement following the loss of a pet as well as other measures. |

22nd October 2024With television sports presenter and animal welfare campaigner Kirsty Gallacher to support the Animals Matter coalition in promoting its animal welfare ‘manifesto’ at Westminster.
The document, backed by The Humane Society International (UK), the RSPCA, Compassion in World Farming and Four Paws, highlights the use of cages and crates, animal welfare labelling of food, intensive animal agriculture, | 22nd October 2024the licensing of animal rescue centres, illegal puppy imports, animal welfare standards in trade deals, the importing of hunting ‘trophies’ and the worldwide trade in fur.
‘We have made great progress in the last decade’ says Sir Roger, himself a lifelong animal welfarist, ‘ but the new Government must maintain the momentum. As the document shows there is a long agenda of issues that still have to be addressed and we have to make sure that these issues are not sidelined’. | 13th October 2024Did you know that 64% of animals are negatively impacted by private firework displays, and 40% of pet owners feel awkward discussing their firework concerns with their neighbours? If you intend to hold a private firework display this firework season, make sure you’re a #KindSpark and give neighbours adequate time for preparation. Follow RSPCA (England & Wales) advice here:
