A great privilege to open the week that commemorates the tenth anniversary of the slaughter of Cecil the Lion by an American ‘Trophy Hunter’ and, in the company of Kay Burley, Chris Tarrant, Heather Mills and the Government Minister Baroness Sue Hayman to hear the message down the line from Dr Jane Goodall. | As the past Chairman of the All Party Parliamentary Group to Ban Trophy Hunting I believe that with the complete cross-party support that now exists we can get the bill that passed in the Commons and was defeated in the Lords through both houses of parliament. Not before time. |

This season some 20,000 people are likely to be diagnosed as having Melanoma arising from over- exposure to sunshine and resulting in huge costs to the NHS and potential loss of life.
Is it too big an ask to suggest to the treasury that while ‘tanning products’ are properly taxed as cosmetics it might be cost-effective if Factor 50 sunscreen were to be zero-rated as a medicine for VAT? | It was good to join our brilliant and local Kent County Council candidate for Herne Village and Sturry, Louise Harvey-Quirke.

Not long now till polling day - on Thursday 1st May, please use your vote to support LOUISE HARVEY-QUIRKE ✔️🗳️ | Getting out in the sunshine to support our candidate in the Kent County Council elections for Herne Bay East - Dan Watkins.

If you live in in St Nicholas, Minster, Monkton, Acol, Sarre or Manston - on Thursday 1st May, please go and vote for ASH ASHBEE ✔️ |

If you live in the Birchington and Rural division on May 1st please give your support to DEREK CROW-BROWN and PHIL FELLOWS ✔️ | Last night I voted to protect Hospices and GPs from Labour’s job tax.
Unfortunately, Labour voted against protecting them. | Making the most of the lovely spring weather getting out to support our experienced candidate for the Thanet Villages by-election - Ash Ashbee (and of course Scruff the dog).

We have to save these endangered species but some present were asking, seriously, which species is more endangered: the black rhino or the human race! | Good to join Simon Jones, founder and CEO of Helping Rhinos at the presentation in the House of Commons that I sponsored this week.

Huge thanks to Simon Opher for Stroud, Sir Roger Gale, Roz Savage MP, Simon Hoare MP, Clive Lewis MP, Carla Denyer—and all of the #CANBill’s cross-party co-sponsors—for championing the Climate and Nature Bill! | With Chordoma survivor comedian Matt Forde at the House to promote the cause of the provision of sanitary bins in men’s lavatories.
Not a subject that you will find on the Order Paper every day- but for those like Matt, who need them, the absence of this necessary item can be no laughing matter. We owe it to Prostate Cancer UK and its supporters to get this simple issue addressed. | Anne Puckridge will celebrate her 100th Birthday just before Christmas. Sadly, although she paid national insurance contributions throughout her working life in the UK her pension was frozen when she retired to live in Canada.
I and the All-Party Group that I chaired throughout the last parliament believe that the UK should treat this as a debt of honour and at least uprate overseas pensions, if only based upon today’s rates, for those who have paid their dues. |

I have yesterday written, with the support of my Councillor colleagues from Birchington North, Birchington South and Kent County Council (Cllr George Kup, Cllr Reece Pugh, Cllr Emma Dawson, Cllr Phil Fellows, Cllr Linda Wright & Cllr Derek Crow-Brown) to ask the Secretary of State for Local Government to call in the planning application for 1,600 homes proposed for Birchington. A correct result. Appeal dismissed. Judges unanimous.
Now we can move forward to generate the job creating net-zero carbon state of the art airport that most people in East Kent want to see operating as soon as possible. |
